Scala Ciro Rosso

ON THE TASTING TABLE THIS WEEK Wine Station fans may recognise the distinctive bottle (looks like an F1 car), but I haven't found another Gaglioppo since. Scala Ciro Rosso is from the ancient area of Ciro in Calabria. It was established 70 years ago by Antonio Scala, and they still use the same concrete tanks that they first installed. His son now runs things. 

WHY BUY? This is a stunning wine. It's very light in colour, the nose is elegant, but the palate is deeply complex, with that Italian smack of rusticity. Think Pinot meets Mencia but 100% Latin.
