Priorat
If you looked at a wine atlas from the 80's, Priorat would hardly merit a mention. Now along with La Rioja it is one of 2 regions at the top of Spain's classification. The rejuvination was spearheaded by Rene Barbier and Alvaro Palacios in the 90's. A region famous for its unique licorella schist soil, which imparts a unique character and flavour on its Garnacha and Carignan-led wines.
