Started by Kildare man Simon Tyrell, along with French born but now long since plastic paddy (and Clane native) Charles Derain, these guys started making Rhone wine over 10 years ago and now make wines of great renown and soul. Recently enough they were joined by Gerard Maguire - the uber-grumpy owner of 64 Wine - the wine store that launched a thousand Irish wine tragics - including yours truly! Simon Tyrrell, Charles Derain and Gerard Maguire (of 64wine) own Les Deux Cols and make the wine. The vineyards are all either organic or in the process of conversion. Some biodynamic practices are also being adopted. The vineyards have been carefully selected on cooler elevated sites and harvesting is all done by hand and carried out a least a week earlier than the surrounding estates. The wine is fermented using natural yeasts in cement tanks , all with the goal to achieve a lighter fresher style of wine. After a 'COVID' absence of 12 months our 'Alize’ is back . This is more representative of our style, lighter in alcohol at 13.85%, aged in cement, and a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault. This is more delicate and a touch lighter in body.
