Querciabella Super Tuscans
Another exclusive new arrival to Ireland! QUERCIABELLA from Tuscany is now available on these shores for the first time. They are responsible for some of the most famous Tuscan wines in the world such as BATAR, a white Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc blend and CAMARTINA, one of the original Super Tuscans. As is always the case with icon wines, there are only a couple of dozen bottles available for the whole market, and they have eye watering prices to boot. Luckily there is a back door with a couple of their cuvees that offer more value! We have a Super-Tuscan intro 6-Pack with 4 MONGRANA and 2 TURPINO with 30% off for €150 - LIMITED!
Let's talk Querciabella. Based in the Greve Village of Chianti Classico, they are one of the pioneers of fine wine in the region. They have been organic since 1988 and bio-dynamic since 2000. According to the preeminant expert on Italian wine Antonio Galloni; Querciabella has been on a roll over the last few years, I can't say enough good things about these wines. They make a stunning array of Sangiovese based wines including what's on offer here; Super Tucsans.
Super Tuscan typically refers to wine that is a blend of Sangiovese and international varieties. We won't get into the history of it here (you can jump into our blog and read all about it HERE) but suffice it to say, this style of wine is pretty universallyu popular. MONGRANA is their entry level to the style. A regular in the Top 100 Wines of the World, pound for pound it's known for it's price to quality ratio and recently 93 POINTS from Wine Enthusiast. It's a stunning, pure introduction to the style, aged in cement, predminantly Sangiovese with Cabernet and Merlot, drink now, and man it drinks well straight into the glass.
Next rung up the Super Tuscan ladder is TURPINO. This wine functions as a Baby Camartina. Using less Sangiovese and dialling up the other varieties and the depth and complexity along with it, it's a serious, serious proposition. A jubilant 96 POINTS from the master Antonio Galloni, of it he said: The 2020 is rich, multi-layered and expansive and captivates from the very first sip. The blend of Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Merlot is very well done. All the elements are very harmonious. This is another fabulous wine from Querciabella. This is an epic and powerful wine that unfurls gradually and offers up quintessential Super Tuscan character.
This is another Monopole exclusive, you won't find it elsewhere, retail or restaraunt. The 6-Pack is made up of 4 x Mongrana and 2 x Turpino. Mongrana opens up very quickly and is incredibly versatile. Turpino requires some decanting and is more of an occasion wine (making Mongrana a perfect second bottle as required!). This is a must for lovers of Italian wine and a great introduction to fine Italian wine if you want to dip the toe - be warned though, once you drink Querciabella it's hard to come back down the mountain!
