SASSICAIA might be the most famous name in Italian wine. The original Super Tuscan, it is apparently Bono's fave wine - we didn't want it anyway! (It's rare as hens teeth and costs several hundred yos a bottle). There is a cheaper way to drink the big house for us mere mortals; with 3 of each of the second and third labels from the famed Tenuta San Guido estate - Guidalberto & Difese (both 2024).
Guidalberto is equal parts Cab Sauv & Merlot, and is made from the estates younger vines, one day they will grow up to the main wine, but for now they are Guidalberto, the 2024 has received the usual gushing praise including 95 points from Decanter. Difese actually has more Cabernet (65%) in it and this might be the best release yet, 93 Points in Decanter. They have put a lot of effort into these wines which means they ae getting harder and harder to find unfortunately.
Get something nice for Christmas, best served with commentary about how Sassicaia is overrated, and these are better.
