What we love about the producer is that they are 7 generations deep in the region, making very traditional expressions, but they are not afraid to introduce some modern methods. More importantly, they don’t simply squeeze the juice, throw a load of wood at it and slap Crianza etc on the label in big letters, there is nuance. Killer Rioja.
A real special occasion wine, LA MATEO VENDIMIA is a personal expression, from their best old vines on a single site. Somewhere between a Crianza and Reserva, they only leave it in oak as long as the wine requires. Made in small amounts and only the best years, unfortunately there’s only one of these in the box - break glass in case of emergency wine!
LETARGO CRIANZA is their workhorse old school Rioja expression, as comforting as a warm duvet on a cold day, this is better fireside or with food, there are 2 of these. LETARGO JOVEN is their ultra pure expression of Tempranillo, just a very slight lick of wood for texture, you can have this with or without food, with or without friends. Utterly delicious Tempranillo.
