Wine of the Week: Tacherons Limoux Chardonnay 6-Pack
ON THE TASTING TABLE THIS WEEK is Tacherons Chardonnay, from Limoux. ‘En Barrique’ on the label means oak aged, but stylish and slight oak age - 10 months in old Burgundy barrel. They are 50 year old vines, it is all hand harvested with fanatical grape selection. It comes off a bit of altitude, which imparts a great fresh mineral edge to the wine, matched to opulent and weighty fruit with a beautiful little twist of oak to hold it all together for a great length on the finish too. This is just a gorgeous wine, a must if you like Chardonnay and even if you are ABC (anything but Chardonnay) this might change things.
WHY BUY? This is a bona fide Baby White Burgundy. The soil profile of the area is very similar to that of Burgundy, the name Tâcherons comes from the Burgundian term for the skilled vineyard workers that prune and pick. This wine pouches way above it’s weight anyway, but with the discount it can’t be missed. Classy stuff.
