Famous as the red version of Sauv. Blanc in that it has introduced legions of people to wine through it’s neo-classical iteration from Argentina, but it started in France.
Malbec, originally from Cahors in France was known as Cot and was notorious for heavy, black wines that were undrinkable in youth. Argy Malbec changed the paradigm as a more fruit forward, drinkable wine emerged and conquered the world. French Malbec has now also changed with accessible and new wave examples, some serious examples here.
