Alternative Spain - you ain't seen nothing like this!
If you like Verdejo and Rioja, these will probably not tick those boxes! But if you want to walk on the wild side, these are challenging, esoteric wines, really unusual. Spain is such a young wine country commercially, Franco demanded all the interesting vines be ripped up as he thought wine was only for the sacrament (typical tyrant).
The Rioja cosmonaut! New wave Rioja Red and White is very, very interesting. Ribeiro reds from Galicia offer elegance and lightness you might not have though possible in Spain. The Canary Islands are a great example of an old region rising like a phoenix - Jancis wrote about it HERE. Really interesting wines here, with a serious deal in the 6er.
