Rosé Wine
If you don't like Rosé wine you might need some more fun in your life. Rosé isn't supposed to be profound, its supposed to be a no strings attached wine, fun in the sun. That said, we have some super interesting modern styles too.
Rosé is no longer a drink to photograph and put on the 'Gram - trendy Rose is out, we want well made juice that gives us all those sweet hints and strawberries and cream goodness - it doesn't have to be made by Kylie Minogue or be instagrammable. It's also a unisex drink, if you're male and think it's a girly drink you need to give your head a wobble - real men drink pink!
How is Rosé made?
Contrary to popular belief, Rosé is made with red grapes, not a mixture of red and white wine grapes. The juice of white AND red grapes is clear, the colour in red wine is achieved from adding the skins back to the juice and extracting beautiful colour and flavour.
In its most simplistic terms, in pink wines, the grape skins are added back to the juice very briefly and the juice is essentially blushed to achieve the lovely salmon pink colour that everyone loves. You can make a Rosé with any grape, but in Provence, the spiritual home of this wine style, Rosé is generally made with blends of Grenache, Syrah or Carignan, with blends of Cinsault making up some of the other main players.
Where is it made?
Provence in France is ground zero for pale rosé wine and is famous for the Provence Flute, which are the distinctive tall bottles. It can be made anywhere, out of anything though and more people are open now to Rosés of a different tinge of pink, Rosado is the Spanish name for Rose and Rosato is the Italian name for this type of blush wine.
