Rhone.....old, old, old school Rhone!
Sometimes you just want old school. Rhone wine may not be the coolest, but it is bloody delicious. The Rhone Valley is split into two and named after the river that runs through it, the harsh Mistral wind provides cooling conditions. The Northern Rhone accounts for only a small percentage of production and her Reds are made nearly exclusively from Syrah. The Southern Rhone focuses on Grenache and blends and contains some of the most famous appellations in the wine world, and it’s here we are focusing with this fantastic, super old-school producer, Arnoux & Fils Vieux Clocher.
This is just a fantastic choice for Xmas dinner, plush Grenache fruit and smoky aromatics stand up to the plethora of flavours on the table. The generic Cotes-du-Rhone is the workhorse, Gigondas brings more power, Vacqueyras brings more aromatics and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the OG brings the decadence. Universally popular, it's defo worth a Mixed 6-Pack this Xmas. Also it is exclusive to Ireland from Wine Station and 20% off at the moment!
