Mencia
Pronounced (men-THEE-ya) was virtually eradicated during Franco's rule in favour of more industrious varieties, Mencia has made a comeback and is rarely found outside the Iberian Pensinsula, mostly in the region of Galicia. This grape is hard to manage and must be perfectly made to balance its aromatics, alcohol and tannin. At its best it is absolutely mesmerizing and unique - symphonic if done well!
